The Ultimate Bingo Championship Final
Winner Roy Stokes was joined by Gala Bingo Managing Director, Simon Wykes, on Tuesday night who awarded him with the Ultimate Bingo Gold Medal and cheque.
Following six months of qualifying games and regional play offs, Gala Bingo has announced that Roy Stokes has been crowned the Ultimate Champion for 2011. Roy, aged 62 from Welling, struck gold after competing in the regional play offs at Medway club and winning himself a place in the Gala Bingo Ultimate finals in Gibraltar. Roy could not believe his luck as he battled through the final elimination process in Gibraltar where he was finally named the Gala Bingo Ultimate Champion of 2011 and awarded with £20,000 prize money, a five day trip for two to Las Vegas and the Ultimate Gold Medal. Roy was even more overwhelmed with his additional £10,000 which he won earlier in the day.
60,000 members from 142 UK clubs originally entered the competition, 6,000 of which won their place in the semi-finals and battled it out to reach the finals in Gibraltar. From Monday to Wednesday this week, 154 other bingo fans from clubs across the UK and online players, each with a guest, joined Roy to enjoy 3 days of fun and games and an unforgettable bingo experience created through Gala’s ultimate bingo “buzz”. For the grand finale event, all contestants were greeted by a champagne reception followed by entertainment from the Dixieland jazz band, cabaret and an Abba tribute duo, exclusive games of bingo and a VIP dinner in the waterfront restaurants.
After the announcement of his big win, Roy was joined by Gala Bingo Managing Director, Simon Wykes to award him with the Ultimate Bingo Gold Medal. Simon commented: “This is a fantastic moment for Roy, an amazing 60,000 players entered this competition and Roy is the last man standing. He really is the ultimate bingo winner of the year.”
When asked what he is going to do with the prize money, Roy commented: “My wife, Linda, would love a new kitchen so I’m going to treat her to that and we have three children and two beautiful granddaughters who I am looking forward to spoiling for Christmas.”
